Loss Assessor
To
the layman the terms Loss Adjuster and Loss Assessor
can be confusing.
An Adjuster works for your insurers
and their job is to minimise any claim that you might
make. An Assessor acts for you and his job is to maximise
any claim. Both come from similar backgrounds but arguably
Vosts in their role as Assessor are more au fait
with current market values because they combine their
skills in valuing, advising and buying for clients so
they are in tune with market values and variations.
In the unfortunate event that
you have suffered theft of or damage to your fine art,
antiques or works of art and you are about to make an
insurance claim then STOP immediately and read on because
Vosts can help you to maximise your claim and
look after your interests rather than those of your
insurers.
In the event of a loss or damage
your insurers will always appoint a loss adjuster usually,
while you are still traumatised, immediately. Their
job is to minimise the amount of recompense their employer
has to pay to you and they often employ unsavoury tactics
to meet this aim.
It takes time to discover exactly
what has gone missing in the event of a burglary and
more time to formulate your claim. Most people under
claim and discover months later that they have forgotten
items of cherished sentimental value that have gone
missing. In the event of fire it takes a specialist
to assess smoke damage and the likely impact on value
if the item has to be restored or conserved.
If you have reasons to make a
claim then first of all, if it is a burglary, contact
the police, they should issue you with a crime number.
Next you should notify your insurer and at the same
time instruct your loss assessor. If the loss adjustor
should arrive at your premises first then do not be
led into estimating the value of the loss under any
circumstances. Wait until your loss assessor arrives
and they will help you to formulate your claim to enable
you to claim the correct amount.
In the vast majority of cases
if you use Vosts services in this respect there
will be a beneficial outcome and you will receive the
correct recompense from your insurer.
